Job SummaryBynum Fanyo & Associates, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations for a wide variety of land surveying projects. As a key leader in our field department, you will manage 1–2 person crews to perform initial field prep, data collection, and construction staking. You will be responsible for ensuring that all field data is accurate, complete, and meets the high standards of quality and efficiency our clients expect.This role is primarily field-based, focusing on residential and commercial projects throughout Monroe County and the surrounding areas. While this is a field-first position, candidates with office experience in Carlson Survey or AutoCAD will have the opportunity to contribute to the drafting and processing phases of our projects.ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise field crews in the execution of boundary retracements, topographic surveys, and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys.Coordinate daily field operations, ensuring all necessary equipment and research (deeds, plats, and previous surveys) are ready for the day’s tasks.Execute construction staking for utilities, curb and gutter, buildings, and site infrastructure.Operate and maintain high-end surveying equipment, including Carlson BRx7 GNSS receivers, total stations, and Topcon data collectors.Perform initial field prep and reconnaissance to locate evidence, monuments, and control points.Maintain clear and accurate field notes, sketches, and digital data files for seamless transition to the office drafting team.Ensure compliance with Indiana Rule 12 standards and project-specific requirements, such as ALTA Table A items.Support office workflows (if applicable) by utilizing Carlson Survey or AutoCAD to process field data or assist in site plan drafting.RequirementsProven experience as a Survey Crew Chief or Instrument operations in a professional land surveying environment.Technical proficiency with modern surveying hardware, specifically Carlson and Topcon systems.Strong understanding of survey types, including residential platting, subdivision surveys (e.g., Link’s Edge), and heavy construction staking.Ability to read and interpret construction plans, legal descriptions, and site development documents.Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a small crew and interact with clients or contractors on-site.Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Carlson Survey or AutoCAD software.Pursuit of or interest in LSIT/PS licensure or a degree in Surveying/Construction Management.Familiarity with Monroe County and City of Bloomington local standards and ordinances.
