MAC is all of those things and more.The RoleMultnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Climbing Gym Coordinator to join our Outdoor Sports team. This hands-on role is responsible for the daily operations of the climbing gym floor and plays a key part in delivering a safe, organized, and welcoming experience for members.This position blends operations, leadership, and member service. You’ll spend significant time on the floor, supporting staff and climbers, troubleshooting in real time, and ensuring programs run smoothly. The ideal candidate takes ownership, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and values efficiency, safety, and positive team culture. You’ll work closely with the Climbing Gym Supervisor to support staff success and a high-quality member experience.What You’ll DoOperations & Facility SupportOversee the daily flow of the climbing gym, including front desk activity, climbing floor usage, and program transitionsEnsure proper staffing coverage and adjust priorities based on traffic and program needsMaintain a clean, organized, and professional environment across all gym spacesInspect climbing equipment and facility infrastructure; coordinate maintenance or replacement as neededSupport bookings, group events, and program logistics, including check-ins and payments when applicableTrack and complete operational tasks assigned by the Climbing Gym SupervisorAssist with inventory management for retail items, rental gear, and suppliesIdentify and contribute to improvements in systems, processes, and workflowsStaff Leadership & TrainingSupervise climbing gym attendants during scheduled shiftsSupport hiring, onboarding, and ongoing staff trainingProvide real-time coaching, feedback, and performance guidancePromote professionalism, consistency, accountability, and a positive team cultureAssist with scheduling and adjust coverage as neededAddress performance concerns in partnership with the Climbing Gym SupervisorPrograms & InstructionSupport youth programs, classes, clinics, and competitionsProvide instruction and coaching to climbers of varying experience levels as neededAssist in developing and refining climbing gym and Outdoor Program offeringsEnsure programs are delivered safely and consistently, following established standardsMember ExperienceServe as a primary point of contact on the climbing floorDeliver knowledgeable, approachable, and professional support to members and guestsAddress questions, concerns, and issues promptlyFoster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participantsSafety & ComplianceEnforce all climbing gym policies and proceduresEnsure staff adherence to safety standards and proper techniqueConduct regular safety checks of terrain, equipment, and systemsRespond to and document incidents or hazards according to protocolParticipate in ongoing safety and rescue trainingCommunication & CoordinationMaintain clear communication with the Climbing Gym Supervisor and teamDocument and report on shift operations, including incidents and successesCoordinate with other departments and Outdoor Program staffParticipate in staff meetings and professional development opportunitie What You’ll Bring3–5+ years of experience in climbing gym operations, outdoor recreation, or a related fieldPrior experience supervising or leading a teamStrong organizational and problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAvailability to work evenings, weekends, and holidaysAbility to lift up to 50 lbs What You’ll GainAt Multnomah Athletic Club, we take care of our people.
