COBOL / DB2 / Mainframe Developer
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced COBOL / DB2 / Mainframe Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise-level mainframe applications. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to support critical business systems, troubleshoot production issues, and implement new functionality while ensuring system reliability and performance.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, maintain, and support COBOL applications running on IBM Mainframe.Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.Work with JCL to execute batch processes and scheduled jobs.Analyze business and technical requirements to implement effective solutions.Debug and resolve production issues in a timely manner.Perform impact analysis and participate in system enhancements.Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA Engineers, and Project Managers throughout the SDLC.Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards.Create and maintain technical documentation.Support production deployments and post-release activities.Required Qualifications5+ years of experience with COBOL development.Strong experience with IBM DB2.Experience working in IBM Mainframe (z/OS) environments.Strong knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language).Experience with CICS.Familiarity with VSAM.Strong SQL and database performance tuning skills.Experience supporting legacy enterprise applications.Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Preferred QualificationsExperience with IBM MQ.Knowledge of IMS DB/DC.Experience with REXX scripting.Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.Experience with DevOps practices in mainframe environments.Banking, insurance, healthcare, or financial services industry experience is a plus.Technical SkillsCOBOLDB2IBM Mainframe (z/OS)JCLCICSVSAMSQLTSO/ISPFIBM UtilitiesFile processingBatch processingSource control tools (Endevor, Changeman, Git, or similar)Soft SkillsStrong communication skills.Ability to work independently and within distributed teams.Excellent problem-solving abilities.Attention to detail.Strong organizational and time management skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Nice to HaveExperience with modernization or migration projects.Cloud exposure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).Experience integrating mainframe applications with APIs or distributed systems.EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
