Seasonal Customer Service Associate

Portland Nursery is excited to hire seasonal retail staff for both of our locations for Spring 2026! We are seeking friendly, dependable individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Applicants should have at least one year of retail or customer service experience; plant knowledge or a passion for gardening is a plus. At Portland Nursery, our mission is to set the standard for horticultural excellence through a comprehensive plant selection and exceptional customer service. As a seasonal employee, your primary responsibility is to support this mission by providing excellent customer service—both through direct interaction with customers and in the completion of daily tasks throughout the nursery. Cashier responsibilities are divided into three main areas: Cashiering: Learn and operate our point-of-sale system while maintaining a welcoming, attentive, and helpful attitude at the register. Cashiering shifts typically last 2–3 hours to provide variety throughout the day. Phone Support: Learn our phone system and handle incoming calls in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. Departmental Support & Sales: When not assigned to the register or phones, cashiers will work within one of the following departments: Cashier Department: Register operations, customer flow support, transaction accuracy, and assisting with front-end organization and efficiency Garden: Perennials, annuals, vegetables, herbs, and grasses Production: Unloading deliveries, pricing, and stocking Hardgoods: Fertilizers, pottery, soils, houseplants, and irrigation Yard: Trees, shrubs, fruit trees, bamboo, and vines Departmental tasks may include assisting customers with plant and garden supply selections, stocking merchandise, supporting displays and merchandising, cleaning, watering, loading customer purchases into vehicles, and collaborating with team members to meet department goals.
