Animal Care and Behavioralist Manager

Job title: Animal Care and Behavioralist Manager Job description: This position is pivotal for quality adoptions of our canines. The Kennel Manager works with leadership, Milo staff and volunteers to provide care for dogs, implement and impact processes and lead day-to-day canine care. This role requires excellent customer service to potential and current adopters, volunteers and fosters. $25 per hour to start, commensurate on experience Schedule: 5 days/week, 40 hours, weekend work required, may require some overtime, Job duties: Lead day-to-day canine care, including management of feeding and exercising dogs as well as assessing training and behavioral issues. Ensure animal care staff is properly cleaning enclosures/outdoor spaces and providing support as needed. Coordinate with other staff and volunteers to facilitate intake protocols, including handling dogs for medical intake and photography assistance. Oversee transport and housing for animals at Milo Pt Richmond (MPR) Provide customer assistance and support, in person and via phone and internet. Encourage and support volunteer participation. Assist in training kennel staff and volunteers to ensure that safe dog handling techniques are followed. Ensure that the facility is clean and safe for animals, staff and clients. Coordinate with management and health staff to ensure that dogs' medical needs are addressed. Positively represent Milo Foundation in our community, among local partners, and at public events. Coordinate and oversee kennel staff and volunteers to ensure daily work of caring for animals and updating bios, etc is completed. Develop and implement protocols and schedules to improve overall animal care across staff and volunteers. Assist MPR management with on-boarding and training, creating kennel staff schedules, keeping staff records, and assisting with HR policies, labor laws, safety protocols, and staff disciplinary practices. Support management to ensure a well-functioning facility, maintain supplies and equipment, and help coordinate facility repairs and improvements. Other duties as assigned. Skills and experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in canine care management Experienced and comfortable with animal handling, behavior, and training. Strong organizational and leadership skills, demonstrated success in improving organizational efficiency and protocols. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including staff training and oversight. Physical and other requirements: Able to work long hours, including weekends and holidays. Able to routinely lift 50 pounds or more. Ideally, a clean driving record and ability to drive Milo vehicles. Able to sit for long periods, and work on a computer with repetitive typing and arm/hand motions. Able to handle and control animals properly and safely. Comfortable with exposure and contact with dogs of all sizes and various temperaments, behaviors, and health conditions; may include contact with body fluids and excrement. Perform bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and other physical movements.
