Materials & Ballistics Engineer
A very unique career opportunity for an engineer with a Materials Engineering or Material Science background interested in becoming a subject matter expert in the design and development of armor systems. The position will require multi-tasking to support the development and production of state-of-the-art transparent and composite armor. The position also involves research and development for US Government customer funded programs as well as to create distinct, competitive advantages for the company in new product offerings. The engineer will be responsible for in-house environmental and ballistic testing including operating a cutting-edge gun range to test armor from .22 Cal. Up to 20mm specialty ammunition and projectiles. In addition, the engineer will couple a strong academic background in materials with a hands-on approach on the manufacturing floor to solve complex manufacturing and quality assurance issues for the production of a wide variety of highly specialized armor and survivability products. This position will have direct involvement in developing life-saving products and will require a security clearance. Successful candidates will be highly motivated and have a strong materials engineering academic background. Significant on-the-job training will occur to provide the necessary experience for many of the responsibilities. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Design state-of-the-art transparent armor using detailed understanding of glass, borosilicate, glass-ceramics, ceramics and polymers.2. Operate ballistic test range and environmental chambers.3. Create and execute thoughtful test and evaluation plans to meet budgets and company objectives.Interact with key customers for outside funded Research and Development programs.4. Program management of R&D projects (internal and externally funded).5. Stay apprised of the latest relevant materials technologies and find new innovative materials to enhance armor designs. 6. Work with material suppliers and outside laboratories for the development of advanced transparent armor and interact with the armor and ballistics technical community to both increase knowledge and establish PAS as a technical leading company.7. Ensure compliance of ballistic test range for safety as well as meeting requirements of local fire department and ATF.8. Compliance and proper handling of classified, ITAR and CUI materials.
