Slane Co.’s client, a growing heavy civil construction company in the Raleigh market, is seeking a Mid-Level Accountant to support the organization’s financial operations, job cost accounting, and project financial reporting across active construction projects. This individual will work closely with operations leadership, project managers, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial tracking, reporting, and forecasting while contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate financial records, journal entries, and account reconciliationsAssist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesSupport preparation of financial statements and management reportingTrack and allocate project costs including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expensesMonitor project budgets and analyze cost variancesPartner with project managers to support financial tracking and reporting across active jobsReview and process vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and client billing documentationAssist with progress billing, retainage tracking, and collections supportSupport annual budgeting and forecasting effortsAnalyze financial data to identify trends, cost overruns, and opportunities for improvementMaintain compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal processesSupport process improvement initiatives and optimization of accounting systemsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally within construction or project-based environmentsExperience with job cost accounting and construction billing methods preferredStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systemsStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCollaborative communication style with both finance and operations teamsPreferred QualificationsCPA or CPA candidate preferredExperience with construction accounting software and job costing systemsFamiliarity with percentage-of-completion accounting and construction contract structures
