Job Description
Summary:
Manufacturing Managers lead a manufacturing team to deliver a range of operational Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and objectives aligned with business needs by:
Participation in the development and execution of the site’s continuous improvement vision and strategy.
Actively facilitating the delivery of a bottom up team development improvement process.
Delivery of medium to long term strategy to enable the factory to control its cost base with variable plant utilization.
In this position you will have ownership and accountability for ensuring the manufacturing area is a safe, efficient and quality focused operation which satisfies all stakeholder expectations and requirements.
Key accountabilities & deliverables:
Responsible for coaching, developing and leading direct reports and for implementation and successful application of lean manufacturing both structurally and culturally.
Responsible for facilitating, coaching, developing and leading staff members to deliver continuously improving operating performance.
Manufacturing Prime, Overhead and Operational Engineering budget holder.
Responsible for developing a budget that releases cost ahead of inflation, and for delivery the same.
Responsible for ensuring that best practice is shared between United Biscuits (UB) sites, and implemented on own site.
Leadership
Facilitate the creation of a dynamic winning culture with aligned and motivated people, ensuring that recognition and financial rewards are clearly linked to measurable performance at all levels.
Create a performance climate where people at all levels expect to be held accountable for delivery of their commitments.
Facilitate the development of yearly manufacturing plan for the area
Responsible for the motivation of direct reports, for leading, coaching and performance management, to ensure skill and competency levels are maintained.
Achieving Results
Ensure that all manufacturing KPIs are well defined, understood by all and achieved. Develop and deliver budget for area of responsibility.
Deliver the consistent use of process, systems and procedures to ensure production plans are optimized and illuminate non value added activities through compliance with core systems and processes within manufacturing
Integrate craftsmen and line operators into team, devolving job/skill demarcation
Communication & influencing skills
To ensure effective communication between Team Managers and at Senior Team level.
To cascade all essential information to Team Managers.
To interact with FGM and with external functions.
To inspire and influence direct reports to realise their full potential, and achieve higher standards.
Customer Focus
Ensure that all direct reports understand and demonstrate the importance of high levels of customer service.
Interact with Supply Chain Manager on site in order to maximize the efficiency of the production plans.
Develop working pattern to support local manufacturing needs
Improving Standards
Set high standards and lead by example to facilitate continuous improvement in cost base and KPI's utilizing lean manufacturing techniques.
Sponsor the promotion and sharing of Best Practice both internally and externally.
Problem Solving
Responsible for identifying and resolving problems in all areas of their remit (staff, production and equipment).
Health & Safety
Ensure company and statutory regulations and guidelines are followed, including operational engineering requirements
Lead by example so as to ensure a behavioral safety culture is developed and sustained on site.
Discipline
Ensure standards of discipline are maintained and handle infringements in line with company discipline & grievance procedures.
Responsible for construction and delivering annual plans/budgets, QFS including operational engineering.
Responsible for staffing and organisation decisions.
Maintaining duty of care responsibilities, ensuring quality, quantity and promotion of a safe working environment
Authority to suspend production at any time in the event of any of the above conditions being compromised.
Control of all allocated direct cost centres in financial budget to SAP authorisation Level 2.
Progress of the Disciplinary Procedure in line with the agreed company policy up to and including dismissal.
Recruitment of staff to satisfy the factory staffing establishment levels.
Experience:
Ability to follow established procedures and good manufacturing processes
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Working knowledge of windows based software, Databases, Proficiency in excel.

Managing people in a change environment (essential)
Desirable criteria:
Must be capable of engaging in technical discussions involving process engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, industrial engineering, quality assurance and product development systems
Identification, investigation and resolution of technical issues as they relate to the manufacturing process, resulting either from equipment malfunction and or non-conformance to formulas, specifications, or processes and procedures.
Specific experience of managing continuous improvement processes (desirable)
Project Management skills (desirable)
Qualifications:
B. S. or B.A. Degree
Minimum of 5 years of experience in production environment
Desirable Criteria
Master’s Degree or MBA
7 years’ experience as a manager of people
Previous experience in a confectionary or food manufacturing environment
Minimum of 1 year of experience or education in HACCP (Food Safety) and Food Quality
