Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted.Job DescriptionThe Recreation/Restorative Aide Student will be covering on call and vacation relief only. This position will start on approximately May 11, 2026, for period up to August 28, 2026.Essential ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies Provide residents with quality recreational and restorative programs, in a positive and creative manner Work with other Activation staff and independently to plan and implement home-wide activities and special events Encourage all residents to participate in recreation and restorative activities Track and maintain resident participation/ attendance records (daily) Complete feedback/audits on resident programs ensuring desired outcomes are achieved Essential QualificationsTo qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2020/2021 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2021 fall term (normally starting in August or September) Because of the responsibilities of this position, only students currently enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree program in Recreation/Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or Occupational Therapy, or Physiotherapy Assistant will be considered Possess ability to work independently, and as a member of a team Will be covering on call and vacation relief only, working weekends and shift work Basic knowledge of computer skills Experience in a long-term care environment and/or clients diagnosed with Alzheimer is an asset Certifications, memberships, licensesSuccessful completion of the Safe Food Handling Certificate (Public Health) Work environment/hours of workThis position works mostly indoors This position will work weekday hours, afternoon hours, evening hours, midnight hours, weekend hours, and be on call after hours and on weekends This position is call-in and vacation relief only, and may have short notice call-in hours for weekdays, afternoon hours, evening hours, midnight hours, and weekend hours, which may include 4 hour shifts Background Check RequirementsThis position works with vulnerable residents in a position of trust and authority, on a sustained and regular basis, in a largely unsupervised capacity. A Vulnerable Sector Screen is required (Long-Term Care Homes Act section 215 O. Reg. 79/10) prior to being accepted for employment. You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check.Essential Physical And/or Safety RequirementsHave physical strength and ability to withstand long periods of standing, walking and frequent bending on a daily basis Slip resistant shoes required Under the Long Term Care Homes Act, all employees are required to provide evidence of, or submit to, a 2-step TB skin test (TB skin tests will be completed the first day or orientation unless the new employee can provide proof of a clear TB test) Bending: frequent stooping, squatting (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (assesses the needs and abilities of a resident (restorative & recreational); works with individual residents to carry out specific exercise programs; exercise programs may include the use of therapeutic equipment and adaptive aids) Walking: frequent walking on level surface (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (plans and implements home-wide activities and special events; resident activities may include the set up and tear down of equipment and/or furniture; portering of residents to and from activities; participates and assists in bus trips for residents) Reaching: frequent reaching below shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (works with individual residents to carry out specific exercise programs; exercise programs may include the use of therapeutic equipment and adaptive aids; resident activities may include the set up and tear down of equipment and/or furniture; portering of residents to and from activities) Lifting: frequent lifting waist to shoulder, pushing below shoulder, pulling below shoulder (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (works with individual residents to carry out specific exercise programs; physical ability to lift residents during exercise and walking programs; physical ability to use arms to do passive exercises and range of motion exercises; operation of mechanical lifts and wheelchairs (manual and electric); resident activities may include the set up and tear down of equipment and/or furniture; portering of residents to and from activities) Standing: frequent standing inside (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) Hands: frequent gripping, mousing (up to 4.55 kgs or 10 lbs) (works with individual residents to carry out specific exercise programs; physical ability to lift residents during exercise and walking programs; physical ability to use arms to do passive exercises and range of motion exercises) BenefitsThis summer student position will receive an hourly wage of $19.06 to $21.12 CAD and will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.________ The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fair and accessible employment practices that attract and retain talented employees in a workplace that is inclusive, supportive, and reflective of the diverse community we serve.Should you require accommodations during the recruitment process, please contact Human Resources & Organizational Development (HROD) at 519-360-1998.
