IT Manager – Infrastructure OperationsMust live within 25 Miles of Wheeling,ILLocation: Northern Suburbs of Chicago (On-site, Full-Time)Schedule: Monday–Friday (On-site 5 days/week; occasional Saturdays/on-call support as needed)Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 base salary + discretionary bonusEmployment Type: Full-Time | Direct HirePosition Summary:A well-established, privately held manufacturing company is seeking a hands-on IT Infrastructure Manager to oversee and support their enterprise IT systems across multiple facilities. This role is based primarily at the company's main office in the Chicago suburbs, with occasional support at two nearby locations.As the lead IT resource in the organization, you will manage infrastructure operations and supervise a small technical team (2–3 direct reports). You'll be responsible for all on-premises infrastructure systems, security, and ensuring the high availability and reliability of IT services in a 24/7 production environment.Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-performing on-premises infrastructure systemsAdminister and maintain VMware environments, including vSphere and vCenterManage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and related systemsMonitor and optimize system performance and proactively address issues to reduce downtimeOversee local and wide area networks, backup systems, and disaster recovery plansCollaborate with business leaders to align IT infrastructure with operational goalsEnsure compliance with internal IT policies and external data security regulationsMaintain up-to-date documentation of systems, architecture, and standard operating proceduresMentor and support the internal helpdesk and IT support staffParticipate in long-term planning for IT investments, upgrades, and system lifecycle managementRequirements:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with 2–3 years in a leadership or managerial roleStrong experience with on-prem server environments, VMware, and Active DirectoryIn-depth knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and firewallsExcellent troubleshooting and performance-tuning capabilitiesComfortable being on call and providing occasional weekend support as neededStrong leadership, communication, and project management skillsIndustry certifications (e.g., VMware, Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL) are a plusPreferred Skills:Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, and automation toolsUnderstanding of DevOps environments and CI/CD pipelinesExperience supporting multi-site operations within a manufacturing or distribution environmentBenefits Include:401(k) with company matchMedical, dental, and vision insuranceFlexible Spending Account (FSA)Paid time off, paid sick time, and paid holidaysLife insuranceCareer growth in a stable, industry-leading environmentWhy This Role?This is a high-impact position for a proactive, technically skilled, and leadership-minded IT professional who enjoys solving problems and taking ownership of enterprise infrastructure.
