Part-time Internship – 10-20 hours per week (June 1, 2026 – August 21, 2026)
What You Can Expect
As the Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineering Intern at the University of Iowa you will support ENGIE's Central Capex and Major Partnerships Team, concentrating on various technical engineering measures for the University of Iowa's District Energy System (DES) and other DES projects. The internship period will be from June 1, 2026 to August 21, 2026.
Responsibilities
Assist the Central Capex and Major Partnerships Engineering team as assigned.
Consolidate I&C project data of the District Energy System to support decisions about infrastructure investments, equipment upgrades, and expansion planning.
Collaborate on other assignments including drafting and updating control sequences of operation, selecting instrumentation and control components, reviewing design plans for upgrades and expansions, and attending design meetings.
Participate in potential project work covering IC integration and migration assessments, capacity roadmaps, procurement and sourcing of utilities, commissioning plans and support, and engineering acumen to support similar areas.
What You'll Bring
Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Iowa.
Minimum of two (2) years of completed coursework in Industrial Automation or Electrical and Computer Engineering, or equivalent; graduate or Ph.D. level students are also accepted.
GPA of at least 2.5.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), preferably AutoCAD.
Experience reviewing technical engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
Proficiency in engineering economics and cost estimating.
Basic understanding of electrical circuits and instrumentation, including sensors, transducers, and signal types such as voltage and current loops.
Familiarity with PID concepts, feedback loops, and simple system behavior.
Ability to create or modify basic ladder logic and perform simple troubleshooting.
Additional Details
Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the internship semester.
This role requires attendance at a worksite.
Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license.
Must comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Hours may be adjusted based on business needs and will be discussed with the supervisor.
Compensation
Hourly Range: $22.50 – $25.50 per hour
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws.
