Make an immediate impact.Bascom Hunter's Power & Control Group (PCG) is building advanced aerospace and defense hardware, including high-performance Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and air-moving machinery for demanding Aerospace and Defense platforms.We're looking for an Aerodynamics Engineer focused on high-performance fan, blower, and turbomachinery development who can own aerodynamic performance, drive power-density improvements, and shape next-generation system architectures.Approximately 70% of this role is aero design and analysis, and 30% supports concept development and growth initiatives.What You'll DoDesign high-performance air-moving machinery: Lead aerodynamic design of high-speed fans, blowers, and turbomachinery components for aerospace applications.Run advanced aero analysis: Perform CFD and analytical modeling (compressible flow, boundary layers, loss modeling) to optimize pressure rise, efficiency, surge margin, and acoustic performance.Develop blade and flowpath geometry: Design and refine impellers, diffusers, volutes, inlet geometries, and flow paths for performance and durability.Correlate analysis with hardware: Support test planning, instrumentation definition, data reduction, and CFD-to-test correlation to validate performance maps.Drive power density and efficiency: Improve performance in high-OAT, high-altitude, and harsh operating environments typical of military aircraft.Support system integration: Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, controls, and electrical engineers to ensure aero performance aligns with system-level requirements.Contribute to Business Development proposals and IRAD: Develop rapid concept designs, preliminary sizing analyses, and technical trade studies to support customer engagements and new program pursuits.Interface with customers: Present technical approaches, defend analysis assumptions, and contribute to design reviews (PDR/CDR).What You'll BringRequiredBachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field5+ years of experience in aerodynamic design of fans, blowers, compressors, or turbomachineryStrong CFD experience (ANSYS CFX/Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or equivalent)Experience developing and interpreting performance mapsSolid foundation in compressible flow and turbomachinery fundamentalsAbility to move from concept through hardware validationClear written and verbal communication skillsU.S. Citizen (due to program requirements)PreferredExperience in aerospace turbomachinery, or aircraft environmental systemsExperience designing for high-voltage (e.g., 270 VDC) aerospace environmentsExperience correlating CFD models with test dataExperience supporting proposal efforts or customer technical exchangesFamiliarity with AS9100D development environments and structured design reviewsTools You'll UseCFD tools (ANSYS CFX/Fluent, STAR-CCM+), MATLAB or similar analysis tools, CAD (SolidWorks or similar), PLM/PDM systems, ERP/MRP (Deltek Costpoint or similar), MS Office/Teams/SharePoint.Why Bascom HunterHigh-ownership technical role with direct influence on product architectureOpportunity to shape next-generation aerospace thermal and air systemsExposure to customers, proposal efforts, and strategic growth initiativesCompetitive compensation and benefitsMeaningful mission building advanced aerospace and defense systemsWork Environment & EligibilityOffice and laboratory environment with occasional test facility exposure; ability to occasionally lift up to ~25 lbs; travel ~10-20% for customer meetings or test support.All positions at Bascom Hunter are subject to background investigations.
