The work
Our client builds the software Minnesota law enforcement runs on. Records management, data sharing between agencies, the integrations that let a deputy in one jurisdiction see what happened in another. When this software works, officers are safer and cases move. When it doesn't, people notice immediately.
This is a small, collaborative technology team inside a public-sector organization — you'll know everyone's name and every system they run. Mission-driven work, modern tools, and a lot of hands-on problem solving.
Be clear-eyed about the shape of this job: it's build and run. You'll write new features and you'll also keep production healthy, restore a database, and take the on-call phone. If you only want greenfield work, this isn't it. If you want to own systems end to end and see your work land with actual users, it is.
Intertech is managing this search on the client's behalf. We'll tell you who they are once we've talked.
What you'd own
Full-stack development across .NET and React applications, plus scripting and older languages across an established estate
Integrations — the interfaces and middleware moving data between internal systems, agency systems, and state partners. This is the heart of the role
The reporting layer — you'd own reports and reporting products end to end: creating, converting, and maintaining them
Production — deploy your own code, monitor servers, schedule backups, restore databases, patch systems
Direct user work — troubleshoot with police departments and county staff, demo new functionality, train users, and write the documentation they'll actually use
The Azure DevOps environment — you may administer the repo and work-item environment, not just commit to it
Project definition — scoping, scheduling, and negotiating deliverables and timelines
External representation — speaking for the organization with state agencies, consortiums, other government entities, and vendors
Mentoring developers and helping evolve the team's Scrum process
A rotating 24/7 on-call phone, shared with the team
What you need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field
5+ years professional experience with object-oriented and scripting languages
Real depth in C#/.NET and SQL Server — production systems you've built and maintained, not just features
React or comparable modern front-end experience
Systems integration: APIs, interface design and implementation, middleware
Azure — you've built and deployed there
Source control management and clear separation of dev/test/production environments
Agile experience, and the ability to explain the tools you actually used
SQL query authoring and maintenance
Comfort with non-technical users — explaining tradeoffs without condescension
Self-motivated, sound independent judgment, minimal supervision
Ability to pass a state background check and to obtain and maintain state certification
Preferred
Public safety, criminal justice, or government systems experience
Broader cloud platform experience
Understanding of firewall and network communication between servers and integration points
Business intelligence and reporting depth
One-on-one customer work solving complex business problems
Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep)
AI-assisted development in your daily workflow
Work environment and details
Rotating 24/7 on-call duties, plus occasional work outside business hours to hit deadlines
Office-based role; hybrid may be available with management approval
Sedentary office work, extended sitting, ability to lift or move up to 25 lbs
Changing priorities and detail-heavy work under deadlines
Valid Class D driver's license and reliable transportation to client sites and conferences; mileage reimbursed per policy
