Senior Java Software Engineer

Senior Java Developer - Developer/Programmer Analyst 3 Hybrid – Austin, TX | Contract | Start: 09/01/2026Note: Must Have Department Of Public Safety experience and Local to Texas only.Position OverviewSeeking a senior Java Developer to lead and oversee coding, testing, debugging, and development activities in support of large-scale applications. The candidate will analyze system requirements, evaluate database schemas, troubleshoot application issues, and coordinate programming projects within a team environment. This role requires 15 years of Java experience and the ability to work independently with considerable latitude for initiative and judgment. Candidates selected will be subject to a background check.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee coding, testing, and debugging of programs based on technical and functional requirements. Oversee preparation of test data, flowcharts, and diagrams. Prepare and oversee instructions for production runs and coordinate development of end-user manuals. Lead and coordinate research and analysis for project proposals, software modifications, and new projects. Analyze proposed applications for equipment requirements and capabilities. Evaluate database schemas, write and run SQL code, and deploy packages and triggers. Review and revise programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new procedures. Analyze logs, system messages, thread connectivity, memory utilization, disk I/O, and disk space to troubleshoot application issues. Confer with staff to schedule work and coordinate programming projects. Prepare detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed applications. Develop standards and procedures for programming staff and related interfaces and reports. Develop and implement specialized programs to supplement and enhance systems software. Recommend, coordinate, and implement changes to improve application and system performance. Create and maintain backup and restore processes to ensure business continuity. Coordinate, assign, and track the work of others.
