SC&A is seeking a Radiological Laboratory Technician/Data Analyst to support operations at the National Analytical Radiation Environmental Laboratory (NAREL) in Montgomery, AL. This role is central to monitoring and evaluating data from EPA’s RadNet air monitoring network, ensuring anomalies are identified, investigated, and documented with accuracy and urgency.This is a highly structured, hands-on position that blends data review and operational support. The work requires attention to detail, sound technical judgement, and the ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks in a controlled environment.Key ResponsibilitiesReview incoming hourly data from RadNet fixed monitors (gamma radiation, airflow, system status) using NAREL systemsIdentify and evaluate anomalous readings flagged by automated screening toolsGenerate and post the Initial Daily Status ReportComplete Anomalous Data Summary and Anomalous Spectrum Summary documentation in accordance with standard operating proceduresAcquire, download, and analyze gamma spectral data for anomalous eventsDocument findings and actions in formal summary reports within defined timeframesEvaluate anomalous radiological data using gamma spectroscopy and supporting datasheetsConduct ongoing reviews of RadNet monitor operational statusGenerate time-series plots and supporting system performance documentationPerform gamma detector energy recalibrations as requiredSupport collection and review of calibration spectra and verification dataEvaluate repaired or replaced system componentsMaintain accurate electronic and physical records in accordance with NAREL proceduresQualificationsBachelor’s degree in sciences (physics, chemistry, or biology preferred)Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on laboratory experience (academic, commercial, or government lab experience)Experience working with data analysis, instrumentation, or environmental monitoring systems preferredFamiliarity with QA/QC procedures, technical documentation, and standard operating procedures for laboratory, radiological, or environmental monitoring a plusStrong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes preciselyAbility to interpret technical data and make sound, timely determinationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently in a highly accountable, process-driven environmentWork EnvironmentThis position is on-site at NAREL in Montgomery, AL and successful applicants will be within a reasonable driving distance of Montgomery, AL and have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportationWork is performed in a secure laboratory/control room environmentStandard schedule is Monday-Friday, however:Availability for off-hours, weekend, or emergency response work on occasion is requiredMust be able to respond within two (2) hours of notification during critical/emergency eventsRole requires adherence to strict data security, safety, and operational protocolsThe salary range for this position is $45,000-$60,000, DOE/DOQ.SC&A does not accept third-party applications or agency inquiries.
