Transit Operator--28 hrs per week max

Position AnnouncementLocation: Cherokee County TransitPosition and Classification: Transit Driver / OperatorGrade: 57Pay-Rate: $14.52 per hour/28 hours per week maxStatus: Part Time position with retirement benefits onlyPosting Dates: June 17, 2025 until filledDescription:Duties include operating and maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy; performing daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary; fueling the vehicles; ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported; documenting customer usage; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary; assisting passengers and handicapped customers in and out of the vehicle; providing safety briefing to customers; and providing other services as requested by management when not engaged in transportation service. Serves as a positive role model while providing transportation service.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately, including ability to read and interpret road signs in English; ability to read, understand, and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Federal Transit Administration and North Carolina Department of Transportation; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish effective professional relationships with customers, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees; ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports; extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s); ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs; ability to perform minor vehicle repairs; skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions.Required Licenses:Current driver NC driver license with clean driving history.Application Process:A State employment (PD 107) application should be obtained, completed, signed, dated and returned to the Cherokee County Courthouse, ATTN: Mandi Amos, HR Generalist and may be left with the guard at the door.
