Job Title: Tool Maker Department: AECReports to: Director of Prototype Effective Date: 10/23/2025Job Summary:The Tool Maker is responsible for designing, fabricating, and repairing precision tools and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. This role requires a high degree of skill and technical knowledge, along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. The Tool Maker will work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to the optimization of production efficiency and quality assurance.Duties/Responsibilities:Tool Design and Fabrication: Create, modify, and enhance tools and fixtures based on engineering specifications, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.Machining Operations: Operate various machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate tool components with precision.Inspection and Testing: Conduct thorough inspections of finished tools and fixtures using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with design specifications.Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tools and machinery, troubleshooting issues as they arise to minimize downtime.Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and production staff to understand tool requirements and provide input on process improvements and cost reduction measures.Documentation: Maintain accurate records of tool designs, modifications, inspections, and maintenance activities, ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and company standards.Required Skills/Abilities:Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating machine tools and using precision measuring instruments; familiarity with CAD software is an asset.Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills with the capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively and efficiently.Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work to ensure the highest quality standards are met.Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate within a team and convey technical information clearly.Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or apprenticeship in tool making or a related field is preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience in tool making or a similar role, with a demonstrated ability to work with various materials and tool types.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
