Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager
Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager
*Full-Time | Direct Hire | On-Site | Approximately 15% Travel*
Are you an experienced *Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering leader* who still enjoys the technical side of engineering?
We're partnering with an established industrial manufacturer to hire an *Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager* to lead and develop a talented engineering team while driving major electrical, controls, automation, and capital projects.
This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who has built their career in *industrial electrical engineering and controls/automation* and has progressed into leading engineers and technical teams.
You'll have the opportunity to *lead people, influence engineering strategy, own major projects, and remain technically involved* rather than moving into a purely administrative management role.
What You'll Be Doing
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical, controls, and automation engineers and technical staff
* Set engineering priorities, allocate resources, and drive project execution
* Provide technical leadership across *PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and industrial automation systems*
* Oversee industrial electrical systems including *power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, motor controls, and instrumentation*
* Review engineering designs, specifications, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
* Lead major electrical and automation projects from concept and design through installation, commissioning, and startup
* Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and technical risks
* Work with engineering contractors, system integrators, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers
* Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Safety, Project Management, and senior leadership
* Drive improvements in equipment reliability, uptime, productivity, safety, and automation
* Help solve complex electrical and controls problems when the team needs technical leadership
* Develop engineering standards and support continuous improvement across the organization
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an *engineering leader first — not someone who checks every possible box.*
You could be a strong fit if you have:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
* *8+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, controls, or industrial automation*
* *3+ years of experience leading, supervising, or managing engineers or technical teams*
* A strong technical foundation in *industrial controls and automation*
* Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA and/or DCS systems
* Knowledge of industrial electrical equipment such as power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, motor controls, and instrumentation
* Experience leading engineering, automation, or capital projects
* Experience working in manufacturing, industrial equipment, process operations, or another industrial environment
* The ability to lead engineers while remaining technically credible with the team
Don't Check Every Box?
*We still want to hear from you.*
If you've built a strong career in electrical engineering, controls, or industrial automation and are currently managing engineers—or you're an experienced engineering supervisor ready for the next step—we encourage you to apply.
Experience with a PE license, PMP, advanced degree, reliability engineering, industrial cybersecurity, Industry 4.0, arc-flash programs, or specific industry standards is valuable, *but it is not what will make or break the right candidate.*
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This isn't just another engineering management position.
You'll have the opportunity to:
* *Lead and develop a strong technical team*
* Remain involved in meaningful engineering decisions
* Own significant electrical and automation initiatives
* Lead capital projects from concept through commissioning
* Influence engineering processes and technical standards
* Work directly with senior leadership
* Make a measurable impact on reliability, productivity, safety, and operational performance
* Build and develop an engineering organization rather than simply maintain one
This is a *permanent, direct-hire opportunity* with an established industrial organization.
Location
This position is *full-time and on-site*.
Approximately *15% travel* is expected for projects, commissioning, company operations, and vendor support.
Candidates interested in relocation are encouraged to apply.
