Personal Support Specialist (PSS)
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care and support to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. The ideal candidate will have experience working with people with developmental disabilities, seniors, and those requiring specialized care such as Alzheimer's or dementia support. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
Responsibilities
Provide direct support to individuals in daily living activities (ADLs), including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
Monitor patient health by observing vital signs and reporting any changes to the healthcare team.
Assist with mobility and transportation needs, including the use of Hoyer lifts when necessary.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of living spaces to ensure a safe environment.
Develop and implement care plans tailored to each individual's needs.
Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other caregivers to provide comprehensive support.
Qualifications
Previous experience in caregiving roles such as home health aide, nursing assistant, or similar positions is preferred.
Familiarity with first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including autism or developmental disorders.
Knowledge of senior care practices, including memory care and long-term care experience.
Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and assessment of needs.
Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for patient assistance.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
