Psychiatric Nurse PractitionerSITE OF SERVICEBranch Health Clinic Oceana, supporting Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. This position provides Wounded, Ill, and Injured (WII) and Post Deployment Health Re-Assessment (PDHRA) services to active duty service members and military beneficiaries.HOURSMonday through Friday:Shifts are 8.5 hours including a 30-minute uncompensated lunch break. Maximum 80 hours per two-week period. No on-call required. Federal holidays off. This is a full-time position; MTF Director will not credential more than two individuals for this role.POSITION OVERVIEWThe Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive psychiatric and mental health services at Branch Health Clinic Oceana. This position performs psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses and treats mental health conditions, prescribes and manages psychiatric medications, and conducts individual, group, and family psychotherapy. The NP supports Wounded, Ill, and Injured (WII) service members and conducts Post Deployment Health Re-Assessments (PDHRA). This is a personal services position subject to day-to-day supervision comparable to military and civil service personnel.POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTSDegree: Master's degree in Nursing from an academic program accredited by ACEN or CCNELicensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse Practitioner in any U.S. state, DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin IslandsBoard Certification: Current certification as Adult or Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)Experience: Minimum one (1) year full-time experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner within the preceding three (3) yearsPharmacology: Successfully completed 30 hours of education in pharmacology for advanced nursing practice; ability to prescribe and manage patients on psychiatric medicationsCertifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationReferences: Two (2) letters of recommendation from practicing physicians written within the preceding 3 years; at least one must be from a supervisor attesting to clinical skills, productivity, knowledge base, and rapportCitizenship: U.S. Citizen requiredSecurity: Must complete SF-86 Questionnaire for National Security PositionsDUTIESPerform comprehensive mental health assessments and psychiatric evaluationsObtain and accurately document relevant health history with emphasis on mental health historyConduct comprehensive multigenerational family assessmentsPerform and document appropriate systems and symptom-focused physical examinations with emphasis on mental status and neurological examsDevelop treatment plans for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders based on bio-psycho-social theories and evidence-based standardsConduct individual, group, and family psychotherapyTreat acute psychiatric disorders and mental health problemsDiagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions within legally accepted protocols and Nurse Practice ActsOrder and interpret diagnostic tests as applicablePrescribe and dispense medications per Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee guidelinesCollaborate with physicians in health care of patients with chronic illnessesRequest consultations or referrals with appropriate physicians, clinics, or health resourcesPromote preventive and health maintenance care through education and counselingMaintain patient records in accordance with MTF requirementsParticipate in peer review and performance improvement activitiesHEALTH REQUIREMENTSVaricella: 2 doses administered at least 4 weeks apart, or positive titerMMR: 2 doses administered at least 4 weeks apart, or positive titerTdap: 1 dose administeredHepatitis B: 3-dose series or positive HBsAB titerSeasonal Influenza: Annual vaccination requiredTB Screening: IGRA test (e.g., Quantiferon) OR two-step TST within 12 monthsN95 Respirator Fit Test: Annual fit testing for Moldex or 3M respiratorsPhysical Examination: Complete MTF health examination and immunization screening form (NAVMED 6260/91)SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLSThis is a personal services arrangement; contract workers are treated as government employees with government scheduling and oversight. Position is emergency/mission essential. Must complete 40 hours MTF orientation and 16 hours MHS Genesis information systems training. Planned absences require 30 days advance notice to Government Supervisor. Clinical competency within past 2 years required. Credentialing package due 45 calendar days before start date.
