Medical Billing Coder - Per Diem 20%FPO - Revenue ManagementPer Diem87572BRJob SummaryUnder the direction of the Associate Director/Revenue Manager, the Medical Billing Coder aka Professional Fee Coder - Revenue Cycle Analyst will be responsible for front-end billing functions from procedural & diagnosis coding and charge entry to contacting physicians for documentation tracking and updating. Working under direct supervision the incumbent acquires knowledge of revenue cycle coding practices and concepts. Developing proficiency to manage 500 - 1000 code combinations to include Evaluation and Management Services as well as simple to moderately complex testing and procedural code services.The Medical Billing Coder will work to acquire and master all entry-level coding functions including assigning appropriate CPT and Dx codes, associated modifiers, appropriate NCCI edits, resolving coding edits and RFIs as well as basic entry-level revenue cycle duties. Other duties may include assisting other Departments as needed/assigned.As a Medical Billing Coder, one must be flexible and adept at juggling multiple tasks with competing priorities. Duties include researching billing/coding questions, working the billing work queues with various billing staff, training and auditing front and back-end billing processes, and identifying opportunities for improvement.Compensation: Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The hourly rate of pay is $49.19 per hour, and benefits will not be offered for this part-time per diem role. Please Note: In the near future, this position may transition to a union-represented opportunity, where the rate of pay and benefits may change. Department DescriptionFaculty Practice Management Operations supports the Revenue Cycle functions for charge capture, coding, charge edits, authorizations, and RFI resolution, supporting over 14 clinical departments and 50 clinical programs. Charge generation for the unit is roughly $2.8 billion, supporting both Faculty Practice Operations as well as the Adult, Children's, and Cancer Services. The impact of revenue cycle work for this unit is felt by Faculty Practice Operations (FPO), as well as UCSF Health Inpatient Facilities.Required QualificationsNo relevant work experience is required, although a fundamental understanding of coding (CPT and ICD-10) documentation requirements (for both billing and compliance), and the billing submission process is essential.The ability to work Monday-Friday, 7:30-4:30, onsite in our Emeryville, CA office.One of the following Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) OR Certified Coding Associate (CCA) OR Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) .Successfully passed AAPC or AHIMA Coding Exam.Detail-oriented, with organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments consistently on schedule.Knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.Basic communication skills, with the ability to interpret and present clinical financial information clearly and concisely.Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn to evaluate workflows and systems.Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff in a wide variety of business and clinical areas.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Six (6) or more months of related work experience & trainingPrior clinical experienceRevenue cycle, finance, or accounting experienceStrong computer skills; proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPointStrong analytical skillsStrong written and oral communication skillsDetail-oriented and have experience working with large dataHave great problem-solving skills, independent, and have a "can-do attitude"License/CertificationOne of the following Certificates:Certified Professional Coder (CPC)Certified Coding Associate (CCA)\Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) About UCSFAt UCSF Health, our mission of innovative patient care, advanced technology and pioneering research is redefining what's possible for the patients we serve - a promise we share with the professionals who make up our team.
