Flagger
The Flagger is responsible for providing safe and efficient traffic control at work sites in accordance with OSHA, MUTCD, and DOT standards. Reporting directly to the Crew Lead, the Flagger ensures that vehicles and pedestrians move safely through or around construction zones, while protecting both workers and the traveling public.Key Responsibilities Direct traffic safely around work zones using stop/slow paddles, hand signals, or flags as required. Maintain constant communication with the Crew Lead and other flaggers to coordinate safe traffic flow. Set up and remove traffic control devices (cones, signs, barricades) as directed by the Crew Lead. Assist with daily inspections to ensure work zones comply with OSHA, MUTCD, and state DOT requirements. Stay alert and focused at all times to anticipate and react to potential hazards. Provide clear instructions to drivers and pedestrians to minimize confusion and accidents. Report unsafe conditions, near-misses, or incidents immediately to the Crew Lead. Support crew operations as assigned when traffic flow is light or flagging is not active.Required Certifications And Qualifications Flagger Certification in accordance with state DOT standards. Knowledge of OSHA and MUTCD safety practices for traffic control. Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and ability to remain focused in high-stress environments. Effective verbal communication skills. Ability to follow direction and maintain professional conduct at all times. Prior experience in construction or traffic control preferred, but not required.Physical and Work Environment Requirements Ability to stand for long periods in outdoor environments and all weather conditions. Must be able to lift and place cones, signage, and other traffic control devices (up to 40 lbs). Exposure to live traffic, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.Must wear appropriate PPE (reflective vest, hard hat, safety footwear, gloves, etc.) at all times.
