Research Scientist Atmospheric Science

Karen Clark & Company seeks a highly motivated physical scientist with experience in the field of atmospheric science to join our growing Model Development Team in our Downtown Boston office. For information please visit www.kcc.us.comResponsibilitiesCollaborate with scientists and engineers to develop the technical aspects of atmospheric peril hazard and impacts models by applying state-of-the-art data processing and machine learning techniquesCollect and analyze large data sets of atmospheric data (e.g., numerical weather prediction, radar, satellite, etc.)Compile related literature and datasets required for model developmentConduct model sensitivity and validation testsProvide documentation for technical publicationsConduct post disaster field surveys after major eventsQualificationsPhD in geophysical science (atmospheric science preferred), physics, applied mathematics, or related fieldKnowledge and experience in atmospheric processes related to synoptic scale, mesoscale, and convective scale weather systemsKnowledge and experience working with remote sensing dataKnowledge and experience in advanced probability and statistical methods as well as machine learningProgramming experience in a widely used language like PythonAbility to work independently and in a team environmentExcellent oral and written communication skills including an eye for professional presentationAbility to travel within the US or internationally with little advance noticeExperience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.) is a plusKnowledge of C# programming language a plusExperience in catastrophe modeling a plus
