Are you a strong clinical leader with a passion for excellence in long-term care? We are seeking an experienced Unit Manager to lead our nursing team and ensure the highest level of care for our residents.
Position Summary
In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the residents we serve, the Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall nursing care and services on their assigned shift/unit. This includes ensuring the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, and documentation.
This leadership role provides direct supervision to nursing staff and safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of all residents by adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
Provide quality nursing care in an environment that promotes residents’ rights, dignity, and freedom of choice
Supervise Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs), Certified Medication Aides (CMAs), nurses, and subordinate staff to ensure assignments are completed accurately and timely
Contribute to performance evaluations in collaboration with the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager
Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to determine shift staffing needs and provide recommendations regarding hiring, transfers, and disciplinary actions
Report problem areas and assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans
Address and document personnel disciplinary issues, including issuing verbal and written warnings as appropriate
Supervise direct resident care and ensure compliance with clinical standards
Conduct shift reports and ensure effective communication between shifts
Round on the unit multiple times per shift to ensure care is delivered in a safe, clean, and organized environment
Notify physicians and families of changes in residents’ conditions
Assist in developing and updating comprehensive care plans
Complete and maintain accurate medical records while ensuring strict confidentiality
Ensure compliance with infection control policies and standard precautions
Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply concerns
Maintain residents’ comfort, privacy, and dignity while fostering a caring environment
Respond promptly and courteously to call lights
Assist with admissions, re-admissions, and room transfers
Communicate effectively and professionally with residents, families, staff, and leadership
Attend and participate in meetings and required in-services
Utilize designated electronic medical record (EMR) and company systems proficiently
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibility for Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs), Certified Medication Aides (CMAs), Licensed Nurses, and other assigned personnel. The Unit Manager serves as a clinical and operational leader for the assigned unit.
