About the CompanyA leading global financial services firm is seeking a skilled Android Developer / Software Engineer III to join a high-impact engineering team building and evolving secure, scalable native Android applications. These applications support critical digital experiences in consumer banking, digital identity, payments, fraud prevention, or internal enterprise mobile platforms serving millions of customers and employees.About the RoleYou will work in a mature Agile environment alongside product, design, backend, QA, and platform teams. The focus is on clean architecture, modern Kotlin-first development, robust security practices, and reliable delivery in a highly regulated financial environment. This is a long-term W2 contract opportunity supporting the client’s technology initiatives through an established vendor partnership, with strong potential for extension.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain production-grade native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM/MVI, clean architecture).Build responsive, accessible UIs with Jetpack Compose (or migrate/enhance existing View-based code) while applying Jetpack components including ViewModel, StateFlow/Flow, Navigation, Room, Paging, and Hilt/Dagger for dependency injection.Implement secure mobile solutions: biometric authentication, Android Keystore, certificate pinning, data encryption, token management (OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect), and defenses aligned with financial compliance and OWASP Mobile guidelines.Integrate with complex backend services via RESTful APIs (Retrofit/OkHttp), handle offline-first capabilities, caching, synchronization, push notifications, and real-time data flows.Drive code quality and reliability through comprehensive testing (JUnit, MockK, Espresso, Compose UI tests), rigorous code reviews, static analysis, and participation in CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Fastlane, or equivalent).Monitor production apps using crash reporting, performance tools, and analytics; rapidly diagnose and resolve issues related to ANRs, memory leaks, battery usage, and crashes.Collaborate daily in Scrum ceremonies, contribute to technical design discussions, architecture evolution, and cross-team initiatives with backend engineers.Mentor junior developers on Kotlin idioms, Android best practices, security standards, and domain considerations for financial mobile applications; promote continuous improvement in team processes and delivery velocity.Stay current with Android platform changes, deprecations, new libraries, and emerging patterns; evaluate and adopt tools that improve developer productivity and app quality.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.Required Skills4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years focused on native Android development and shipping apps to production.Advanced proficiency in Kotlin (primary language) and strong ability to read/maintain Java code.Deep, hands-on experience with Android Jetpack libraries and modern patterns: Coroutines + Flow, ViewModel/StateFlow, Room, Navigation Component, Hilt or Koin, and clean/MVVM or MVI architecture.Proven experience consuming/designing REST APIs, JSON parsing, offline data strategies, and third-party SDK integrations.Solid understanding of Git workflows, code review processes, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and the full software development lifecycle.Demonstrated focus on mobile security, performance optimization, and writing testable, maintainable code.Preferred SkillsPrior experience building mobile apps in financial services, banking, payments, fintech, or other regulated industries (digital identity, KYC/AML flows, fraud prevention, or secure transactions are significant advantages).Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose for new feature development or migration projects.Mobile DevOps/CI expertise: automated builds, testing, signing, and deployment pipelines.Knowledge of mobile analytics, A/B testing, feature flags, or observability tools (Firebase, etc.).Awareness of accessibility standards and performance best practices for high-scale consumer or enterprise apps.Any backend or full-stack exposure that aids better system-level collaboration.Pay range and compensation packageRelocation assistance is available for exceptional candidates open to relocating to the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. Support can include moving expenses, temporary housing, house-hunting assistance, and other transition support depending on engagement terms.
