Tutor III - Computer Science/Information Technology

The Tutor III for Computer Science/Information Technology is an active participant in the CLC Tutoring Center, coaching students in selected subjects as well as in study and technology skills as needed. The Tutor participates in staff development opportunities, contributes to center projects, and helps promote the center within the CLC community. Required Qualification(s) Bachelor’s degree or higher OR an Associate’s degree with four semesters experience as a Tutor II and the recommendation of the Tutoring Center Coordinator(s). Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, and/or C++) Ability to tutor in multiple modalities (face-to-face and online). Ability to communicate and interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Ability to assess student learning needs and determine appropriate learning strategies. Desired Qualification(s) Previous Tutoring Center experience Proficient in MS Office Willingness to work at multiple campus locations (Lakeshore, Southlake, Grayslake) Skills in Windows and Linux operation systems, Networking, SQL, HTML5, and/or Adobe Dreamweaver Posting Date 10/15/2024 Closing Date 10/25/2024 Expected Start Date 11/04/2024 Special Instructions Summary This is a part-time flex position and employment shall be on an at-will basis, the duration of which shall be in accordance with the needs of the College of Lake County. Part-time flex employees are not eligible to participate in certain benefit offerings at the College, including tuition reimbursement, tuition waiver, or health insurance. Part-time flex employees will be eligible for paid time off dependent on scheduled hours. Summary of Essential Functions Tutor CLC students in math computer science (MCS) and computer information technology (CIT) courses and/or other subjects as needed. Tutor in multiple modalities (face to face and online). Recommend appropriate learning strategies in basic skills. Present class orientations describing center services. Demonstrate software skills as needed. Lead study groups as needed. Refer students to support services when appropriate. Document tutoring sessions and complete other required reporting. Participate in staff development opportunities and in the tutor evaluation process. Participate in center projects as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
