Salary: $16.00 - $21.00 HourlyLocation : Gaylord, MNJob Type: TemporaryJob Number: 26-2022-SLDepartment: Public WorksOpening Date: 02/05/2026Closing Date: 3/31/2026 4:00 PM CentralDescriptionSibley County is a seeking Seasonal Engineering/Construction Tech/Intern is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in construction staking, land surveying, and inspection for road construction projects. This position works for the Construction unit within the Sibley County Public Works.This temporary position is a great opportunity for students to explore their interest and gain work experience in the Engineering, Construction, and/or Survey fields. We will be hiring 1 person this summer in our construction unit. The positions will last approximately 3-6 month and may require the ability to work a flexible schedule which include early morning or evening hours to accommodate project deadlines.Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssists with inspections of construction projects to assure contractor comply with project specifications, Sibley County standards, plans, and State DOT requirements and standards.Assists with road and bridge construction project inspections and maintains daily records of construction activities.Assists road inspectors with construction material testing.Assists with construction project documentation records.Maintains detailed construction project records.Assists with construction surveying and project staking documentation.Essential SkillsAbility to effectively communicate orally and in writing.Ability to do or learn basic staking, surveying or material testing.Ability to complete mathematical calculations.Must be reliable with consistent performance and attendance.Ability to interpret roadway maps or construction plans.Ability and skill to use hand tools and operate small to heavy size equipment.Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office--Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).Minimum RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or GED, enrolled in a 4 or 2 year program in a civil engineering/technician, construction, engineering, surveying, or a closely related degree with a minimum of 1 year course work completed and valid MN Driver's License.Requires walking, standing, lifting, and bending to a significant degree. Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to work extended hours when necessary.
