Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer / Leadman to join our manufacturing team. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC lathes while providing daily direction and technical support to machine operators and setup personnel.
The ideal candidate will have strong CNC lathe programming and machining experience, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Program, set up, and troubleshoot CNC lathes.
Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for new and existing jobs.
Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and program prove-outs.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
Determine proper tooling, inserts, speeds, feeds, and machining processes.
Perform new-job setups, first-piece runs, and production prove-outs.
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional, and production issues.
Make necessary program and offset adjustments to maintain part specifications.
Improve cycle times, tool life, setup times, and overall machine efficiency.
Ensure parts are manufactured according to required dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
Use precision measuring equipment to inspect and verify completed parts.
Provide technical guidance and daily direction to CNC lathe operators and setup personnel.
Train and mentor employees on proper setups, tooling, machine operation, and troubleshooting.
Help prioritize jobs and coordinate workflow to meet production schedules.
Monitor production and address issues that may cause downtime, scrap, or delays.
Work closely with Quality, Production, and Management to resolve manufacturing issues.
Maintain organized programs, setup sheets, tooling information, and related documentation.
Promote and enforce company safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the CNC Lathe department.
Qualifications
5+ years of CNC lathe programming and machining experience preferred.
Strong hands-on experience programming and setting up CNC lathes.
Previous lead, supervisory, or team leadership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of CNC programming and G-code.
Ability to independently take a job from blueprint/programming through setup and production.
Strong knowledge of turning operations, tooling, inserts, workholding, feeds and speeds, and offsets.
Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
Experience machining tight-tolerance precision components.
Proficient with micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills.
Ability to train, guide, and communicate effectively with machine operators and setup personnel.
Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a strong, experienced CNC Lathe Programmer who can take ownership of the department. The right candidate should be comfortable programming and working directly on the machines while also leading the team, troubleshooting production issues, improving processes, and ensuring jobs are completed correctly and on schedule.
This is not an entry-level position. Candidates should have extensive hands-on CNC lathe programming and setup experience and be capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
