Job DescriptionGastroenterology Hospitalist (MD/DO)Position SummaryThe Gastroenterology Hospitalist provides inpatient-focused care for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary conditions. This role emphasizes hospital-based consultation, inpatient management, and procedural care while collaborating closely with hospitalists, surgeons, intensivists, and other specialists to ensure high-quality, coordinated patient care.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide inpatient gastroenterology consultations and ongoing management for hospitalized patientsEvaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and complex gastrointestinal conditions, including GI bleeding, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and biliary disordersPerform inpatient diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures as indicatedManage pre- and post-procedure care, including monitoring for complicationsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including internal medicine, surgery, critical care, radiology, and nursingInterpret laboratory results, imaging studies, pathology reports, and endoscopic findingsParticipate in inpatient rounding, handoffs, and care coordinationEducate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and proceduresDocument all patient encounters and procedures accurately and timely in the medical recordParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical governance initiativesAdhere to evidence-based clinical guidelines, hospital policies, and regulatory standardsQualificationsMedical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowshipBoard eligible or board certified in GastroenterologyActive state medical license or eligibility for licensureStrong clinical decision-making, procedural, and communication skillsAbility to function effectively in a fast-paced inpatient environmentWork EnvironmentInpatient hospital setting onlySchedule may include block scheduling, call coverage, nights, weekends, or holidays depending on service needsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods during procedures and roundsManual dexterity for endoscopic and bedside proceduresAbility to move throughout hospital units and procedural areas
