Seasonal Sludge Removal And Water Plant Maintenance AssistantStarting Hiring Range: $16.82 - $20.60Under direct supervision, this seasonal position assists with sludge removal and processing and supports general water plant maintenance, including the upkeep of Water Treatment Plant buildings and grounds.Essential Job FunctionsRemoves sludge by utilizing valves and clari-vacs.Processes sludge by polymer to dewater and dry in beds.Removes dried sludge from drying beds and stockpiles it for removal from the plant.Pressure washes drying beds with fire hoses.Assists with water related maintenance by repairing equipment.Assists with the upkeep of the grounds and facilities by mowing, trimming, painting equipment, and sweeping and mopping floors.Performs oil changes on facility equipment.Performs all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED equivalent, is preferred. No experience required.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSkill in utilizing valves and clari-vacs, lawn equipment, and fire hoses.Ability to perform repairs and oil changes on equipment.Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and problem solve.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to effectively work with others in a team environment.Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.Special RequirementsThis position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.Licenses & CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.Work EnvironmentWork is primarily performed in both an outside environment (frequently during hot temperatures and occasionally during inclement weather) and inside water treatment plant facilities. May be exposed to chemicals and gases in the work environment. Physical demands include sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Performs heavy manual labor which involves lifting up to 100 pounds.
