The Creative, Data, and Experiential XQ teams believe that a one-of-a-kind, riveting, and charming data visualization style could amplify our communication of the “urgency for high school transformation” and, in turn, attract more engaged users of XQ’s resources and tools.In this job, you will have the opportunity to push your creative limits and develop a completely novel way of visualizing data. You will be the technical data visualization design expert that gives shape to a new data visualization methodology to be used in an upcoming in-person activation. We work with our partners to turn their innovative ideas into action and create more rigorous and equitable schools where students get a voice in their education.ResponsibilitiesDevelop, design, and implement an immersive, captivating, and motivating data visualization experience for XQ to use in an in-person activation with 100s of leaders in the education reform space. For this project, the underlying datasets and analysis will be provided to you.In the design and implementation of this data visualization experience you will be responsible for:Determining the data visualization design language that reflects XQ’s brand and aesthetic, while maximizing the data’s impact.Identifying the appropriate data visualizations to present, so that they are (1) digestible and actionable, and (2) beautiful and captivating.Ideating with the XQ Creative team and its Creative Studio on design and data visualization best practices.Collaborating with XQ Data, Evaluation, and Research to construct a rigorous narrative that underpins the data visualization and threads the data into a comprehensive story.Working with the XQ Experiential team to determine the medium in which XQ presents the data visualization experience (on-screen, mobile, print handout, poster, interactive, installation, etc.).Supporting the XQ Experiential team in implementing this data visualization experience on the week of the in-person activation.This data visualization experience is core to XQ’s work and could lead to other XQ data visualization opportunities.Work Hours & BenefitsJob Type: Contract (Remote)Job Duration: 1 MonthWork Hours: Full TimeCompensation: Negotiable, commensurate with experienceQualificationsExtensive portfolio of data visualization projects and methodologyBachelor’s degree, Advanced graduate degree, or equivalent work experience preferredKnowledge of data visualization process, trends, and historyFamiliarity with Agile methodology and Design Thinking practicesSignificant experience in developing tools, products, or services that balance user needs, business objectives and technological constraintsProven experience with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalentProven experience with D3.js or equivalentBasic knowledge or interest in the American public education system and the data systems involvedExpert communication in English – both orally and in writingAbility to work in a fast paced, nimble environmentFlexible work hours to meet moving deadlines
