Job SummaryPsychiatrist (Board Certified / Board Eligible)Department of Veterans Affairs - Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS)Primary Location: 2400 Hospital Road, Tuskegee, AL 36083Additional coverage sites may include Montgomery, Dothan, Fort Rucker, Monroeville (AL) and Columbus (GA).Work Schedule & HoursRegular Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with rotating nightly and weekend call among a large group of providersOn-Call Hours: Approximately 7,466 hours annually (shared among a pool of 8 providers)Position SummaryThe Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive onsite psychiatric physician services to eligible Veterans at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. Services must meet or exceed nationally recognized standards established by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and adhere to all applicable VA policies and directives.Direct patient care comprises approximately 90% of duties.Primary ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesInpatient Psychiatry ServicesCollaborate with VA Mental Health staff in inpatient settingsEvaluate, admit, diagnose, and treat psychiatric patientsDevelop and manage treatment plansManage care through discharge or transferProvide timely and complete medical record documentation Outpatient Psychiatry ServicesEvaluate new patient referralsTreat severely mentally ill patientsProvide evaluation and disposition E-consultsConduct post-discharge follow-upEnsure patients are seen within 30 days when required Daily Clinical Workload Expectations:6-6.5 bookable patient hours per dayApproximately 6 one-hour patients OR 12 half-hour patients per day On-Call CoverageProvide on-call coverage during nights, weekends, and holidaysMust be available by phone within 15 minutesMust be available onsite within 60 minutes when required Federal holidays observed by VA include major national holidays. Education & SupervisionProvide education and supervision to Health Professions Trainees (HPTs)Maintain compliance with VA Office of Academic Affiliations guidelinesOversee trainee documentation and clinical encountersPerform required evaluations of traineesProfessional Standards & ComplianceThe Psychiatrist must comply with:ABPN standardsJoint Commission standardsVA Privacy Act, HIPAA, and medical records directives All documentation must meet VA Health Information Management standards.
