Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physiatrist (MD/DO) Position Summary The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician (Physiatrist) provides comprehensive, non-surgical care focused on restoring function, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life for patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal, neurologic, and functional impairments. This role emphasizes interdisciplinary rehabilitation, evidence-based treatment, and patient-centered care across inpatient and outpatient settings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate and manage patients with physical impairments due to injury, illness, or chronic conditionsProvide inpatient rehabilitation care and/or outpatient PM&R clinic servicesDevelop and oversee individualized rehabilitation treatment plansManage conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputations, musculoskeletal disorders, and chronic painPerform and interpret electrodiagnostic studies (EMG/NCS) and musculoskeletal ultrasound as applicablePerform interventional procedures consistent with training and privileges, such as joint injections, spasticity management, and pain-related interventionsCoordinate interdisciplinary care with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing, psychology, and social workParticipate in care planning meetings and goal setting with patients and familiesCollaborate with neurology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, primary care, and other specialistsEducate patients and caregivers regarding diagnoses, rehabilitation goals, and long-term managementMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiativesSupervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or trainees as applicableComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency programBoard-eligible or board-certified in Physical Medicine and RehabilitationAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDEA registration or eligibility Skills and Competencies Expertise in functional assessment and rehabilitation medicineStrong clinical judgment and interdisciplinary collaboration skillsAbility to manage complex, medically and functionally impaired patientsExcellent communication and patient education abilitiesCommitment to evidence-based, patient-centered rehabilitation care Work Environment Inpatient rehabilitation facilities, hospital units, outpatient PM&R clinics, and specialty rehabilitation centersSchedule may include inpatient service coverage, outpatient clinics, and call responsibilities depending on practice model Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout clinical and rehabilitation environmentsManual dexterity for examinations and proceduresVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and communication
