School Bus DriverQualifications:Education/Certification:Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B)Special Knowledge/Skills:Must be 18 years of ageAbility to pass alcohol and drug testAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyKnowledge of student discipline procedureAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to operate busPrimary Purpose:Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.Reports To:Coordinator for TransportationMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Vehicle Operation:1. Follows assigned route and adhere to established schedules.2. Drives bus to and from extracurricular activities.3. Checks bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notifies supervisor of needed repairs.4. Reports all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Completes required reports.5. Keeps records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.6. Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled.Student Management:7. Supervises students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.8. Communicates with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus.9. Maintains discipline; reports students discipline problems to appropriate administrator.10. Instructs students on safe riding rules and regulations.Safety:11. Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.12. Inspects bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving.13. Insures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.14. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that cause an accident and informs supervisory of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.15. Installs snow chains during inclement weather.16. Reports any hazardous conditions along the route.Other:17. Operates two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office.18. Works irregular hours as needed.19. Attends and completes required training program to maintain safety certification.20.
