Advanced Energy has devoted four decades to perfecting power for its global customers and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.POSITION SUMMARY:Advanced Energy is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern to support development activities at our Eden Prairie, MN design center. This is a great opportunity for an Intern to work with a cutting edge engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered.RESPONSIBILITIES:Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:Active participant in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goalsAssist in the development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply unitsAnalyze test data and reports against functional and performance specificationsInterfacing with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are metDesign sheet-metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assembliesEfficient packaging of electronic circuitry in protective enclosures3D layout of printed circuit board assembliesModeling, simulation, and design for thermal, acoustic and vibration performancePrototype testingQUALIFICATIONS:Required:Ability to work in a lab environment building, modifying, analyzing, and testing prototypesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervisionDemonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office SuitePreferred:Experience with Solidworks, Pro-E, CFDesign, Flotherm, ANSYS and/or Solidworks SimulationExperience with electronic packaging and/or thermal managementEDUCATION:Candidates working towards a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards a Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalentCandidates working towards MS or Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentPreference will be given to those with an Electronics Packaging or Thermal Management focus, but other fields consistent with Advanced Energy's needs will also be consideredGPA > 3.25COMPENSATION:As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
