Director of Ministry (Faith Formation & Youth Ministry)

Position SummaryThe Director of Ministry is a key leadership position responsible for the vision, development, coordination, and administration of all faith formation and youth ministry efforts, including evangelization and catechesis, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. This role oversees a comprehensive, lifelong faith formation program that serves children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, fostering spiritual growth and active participation in parish life.The Director of Ministry works collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and families to ensure that all programs reflect the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church while responding to the needs of a growing and diverse parish community.Position TypeFull-Time, Salaried (40 hours/week)Includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by parish programmingReports ToPastor with administrative oversight from the Parish ManagerAreas of ResponsibilityLeadership & VisionDevelop and implement a cohesive vision for lifelong faith formation aligned with parish and diocesan prioritiesServe as a member of the parish leadership teamPromote a welcoming, evangelizing, and mission-driven culture across all ministry areasProvide support to all ministries at the parish, including liturgical ministries and ministries for Sacramental preparationsFaith Formation OversightProvide direct oversight and strategic direction for all programs, including:Adult Education & Faith Formation (including young adult ministry)High School Youth MinistryMiddle School Youth MinistryElementary School Youth MinistryResponsibilities include: Curriculum selection and development consistent with Catholic teachingSacramental preparation programs in collaboration with clergyEvaluation and continuous improvement of all programsStaff & Volunteer ManagementRecruit, train, supervise, and evaluate ministry staff and volunteersFoster leadership development among coordinators and catechistsEnsure safe environment compliance and proper training for all volunteersProgram Development & CoordinationPlan and oversee retreats, service opportunities, and special eventsCoordinate intergenerational and family-based faith initiativesEnsure programs are accessible, engaging, and spiritually enrichingPastoral Engagement and EvangelizationBuild relationships with parish families, youth, and adult participantsProvide pastoral support and guidance as appropriateCollaborate with other parish ministries and outreach effortsCoordinate a parish presence in the broader communityAdministration & CommunicationDevelop and manage the ministry budgetMaintain accurate records and registration systemsCommunicate effectively through parish platforms (bulletin, website, social media)Ensure compliance with diocesan policies and proceduresQualificationsEducation & Experience Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education, or related field required (Master's preferred)Minimum 3-5 years of experience in parish ministry or faith formation leadershipPracticing Catholic in good standing with a strong understanding of Church teachingSkills & Competencies Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to manage multiple programs and priorities effectivelyExcellent communication and public speaking abilitiesCollaborative mindset with the ability to work across diverse groupsProficiency in administrative and digital toolsWork Environment & Expectations Full-time position requiring flexibility in schedulingRegular evening and weekend commitmentsActive presence at parish events, liturgies and liturgical celebrations, and ministry activitiesCompensation & Benefits Salaried position commensurate with experienceBenefits package consistent with parish/diocesan policiesMission AlignmentThe Director of Ministry is expected to actively support the mission of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by fostering discipleship, encouraging lifelong faith formation, and building a vibrant, Christ-centered parish community.
