It is an opportunity to empower artisans, build skills, and create an inclusive retail environment where everyone belongs.Job PurposeThe Direct Support Professional supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in maintaining meaningful employment at River District Artisans. This role promotes independence, skill-building, and community integration while helping ensure customers receive exceptional service in a welcoming and inclusive environment.At The Arc of Southside, employment is the first and preferred option for all working-age adults, regardless of ability. This role helps bring that vision to life.What Youll Do:Individualized SupportAssist individuals in completing daily tasks and achieving vocational goals aligned with their person-centered plans Promote independence, confidence, and skill development through positive reinforcement Encourage community participation and social engagement Maintain awareness of safety and well-being at all timesEmployment Coaching & Work CoordinationPrepare and organize workstations for efficient production Teach task techniques, work habits, productivity expectations, and workplace behavior Provide coaching that aligns with vocational and behavioral goals Communicate regularly with case managers and supervisors regarding progress and support needsRetail Operations & Customer ServiceGreet customers and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance Support point-of-sale transactions and ensure accurate processing of purchases Assist with inventory management including tagging, restocking, and merchandising Maintain store cleanliness and visual appeal Model professional customer service skills for supported employeesDocumentation & ReportingMaintain accurate service documentation and daily progress notes Complete incident reports and required documentation in compliance with DBHDS, CARF, Medicaid, and agency standards Communicate unmet needs or concerns promptly to leadershipWhat You Bring:High school diploma or equivalent Experience supporting individuals with disabilities preferred Retail or customer service experience preferred Sewing skills required Valid drivers license, good driving record, and access to reliable transportation when required Satisfactory criminal history check Strong communication skills and professionalism Ability to work independently and as part of a team Sound judgment and decision-making skillsWhy This Role Matters:At River District Artisans, individuals with disabilities are not just participants they are creators, contributors, and valued members of the workforce.As a DSP, you will help ensure that supported employees gain real skills, build confidence, and experience the dignity of employment.
