EHS Safety Technician Norfolk VirginiaEnvironmental Health and Safety Technician position available with SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in Norfolk, VA shipyard related subcontractor.Job Summary: We're seeking an EH&S Technician with commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including but not limited to ship inspections, training, coordination of hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and more. Candidate can work in confined spaces and has no problem working long hours and weekends.Must be in Norfolk, VA, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.Responsibilities:Performs various physical duties as assignedUse proper PPEShip inspectionsCorrecting discrepanciesTrainingCoordination of hazardous waste removal, shipyard hazardous material complianceRecordkeepingSample collectionIndustrial hygiene surveysAccident investigationsProvide safety data sheetsPerforms some specialized tasks which may require on-the job trainingImplement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policiesQualifications:Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelinesTime management skills, minimal supervision, can manage time effectivelyAttentive to detail and alert always to ensure safetyAble to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workersTwo years of previous experience in EH&SComputer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power PointMust be knowledgeable in OSHA Maritime StandardsGood written and verbal communication skillsEducation Requirements:High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeshipMust be certified HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime SafetyWorking Conditions and Physical Demands:Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
