Job DetailsDescriptionAs a Planner I/II, you’ll contribute to projects that influence how people move, live, and grow—from multimodal transportation systems to land development and community planning initiatives. You’ll collaborate with planners, engineers, and clients to turn data into actionable solutions that balance economic, environmental, and social outcomes.Whether you’re early in your career or building on a few years of experience, this role is designed to accelerate your growth while giving you exposure across disciplines.What You’ll DoYou’ll contribute to both transportation and land-urban planning workstreams, with increasing independence based on your experience level:Transportation PlanningSupport data collection and analysis for transportation systems, mobility, and infrastructure planningAssist with development of plans related to:Multimodal transportationTraffic and mobility systemsTransportation demand management and accessContribute to preparation of general plans, corridor studies, and transportation-focused planning documentsLand Use & Urban PlanningAssist in preparing:General and master plansZoning code updatesDevelopment and redevelopment plansSupport projects focused on community development, infrastructure, and land use strategy Contribute to planning efforts tied to resiliency, environmental considerations, and long-term growthAcross Both DisciplinesSupport public engagement and stakeholder coordination effortsAssist with regulatory compliance and permitting processesCompile and analyze data, trends, and planning inputs to support project decisionsPrepare clear, accurate, and professional reports and documentationMaintain quality standards and contribute to team collaboration across disciplinesWhat You BringPlanner I Bachelor’s degree in:Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or related fieldFoundational understanding of planning concepts (transportation, land use, or both)Strong interest in multi-disciplinary planning workBasic skills in data analysis, communication, and technical writingEagerness to learn and grow within a collaborative environmentPlanner II (Early Career)Bachelor’s degree in a related field~1–3+ years of relevant experience (planning, analysis, or related work)Experience supporting planning projects, reports, or data analysisStronger proficiency in:Data interpretationReport writing and documentationWorking with planning tools/softwareAbility to take on more responsibility with moderate independenceGrowth & OpportunityThis role is intentionally designed to build well-rounded planners.You’llGain experience across both transportation systems (movement) and land use (place)Work on a wide variety of projects, clients, and communitiesDevelop the foundation needed to grow into Planner II, III, and beyondWhy KLJ?At KLJ, we have a vested interest in the personal, financial, and professional goals of our employees. The salary for this position is expected to range between $50,000 - $65,000. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include education (or applicable experience), training, job location, competencies relevant to the role, and internal equity.
