The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop proficiency in French and/or Spanish while fostering an appreciation for diverse cultures. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans aligned with New York State standards, assessing student progress, and contributing to a positive school community.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with New York State Learning Standards for World LanguagesTeach French and/or Spanish courses across multiple proficiency levels (e.g., beginner to advanced)Foster listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target languageIntegrate cultural instruction into language lessonsAssess and monitor student progress through formative and summative evaluationsDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning stylesMaintain accurate records of student performance and attendanceCommunicate effectively with students, parents, and school staffParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school eventsSupport extracurricular activities such as language clubs or cultural eventsQualificationsBachelor's degree in French, Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)Valid New York State Teaching Certification in French (7-12) and/or Spanish (7-12)Strong proficiency in French and/or Spanish (native or near-native fluency preferred)Knowledge of second language acquisition best practicesExperience teaching at the high school level preferredExcellent classroom management and communication skillsCommitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in educationPreferred SkillsAbility to integrate technology into instruction (e.g., language learning apps, digital platforms)Willingness to collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projectsEnthusiasm for promoting global awareness and cultural competence
