The Opportunity: Be the Voice of VictoryThe Lane Victory Maritime Center is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the restoration, maintenance, and interpretation of the SS Lane Victory, a fully-operational WWII Victory Ship. We are a living historical monument and a vital memorial to the U.S. Merchant Marine and the U.S. Naval Armed Guard. We are seeking enthusiastic Tour Guides / Docents to enhance the Guest Experience and bring the heroic and often harrowing history of this National Historic Landmark to life. As a Guide, you will lead groups of all ages through the ship's historic stations—from the Bridge to the Cargo Holds—exploring vital chapters of American history. If you enjoy ships, history, education, and public speaking, step aboard! RequirementsAge: Guides must be at least 16 years oldPhysical Stamina: You must have stamina and be able to handle ladders (which are more like steep stairs with railings) to safely work along the full tour route. Qualified individuals with mobility challenges should contact the Volunteer Coordinator regarding possible accommodations.Time Commitment: Scheduling is flexible, with a minimum requirement of 10 hours per monthAttitude: A positive attitude is a must—we are an all-volunteer crew! Processing and TrainingWe provide comprehensive support and training to ensure your success. Application: Prospective volunteers must complete an application before attending our New Volunteer Orientation (NVO). Acceptance: Prospects may apply and interview for multiple opportunities, but final acceptance is determined by each department head and the Board of Directors. Mentorship: New volunteers are paired with a Sponsor within their first month and are expected to attend the NVO.
