Position: Java Microservices AWS ArchitectLocation: Durham, NC / Burlington, NC (Hybrid – Local Candidates Only)Experience: 15+ YearsEmployment Type: Full-Time / ContractPosition OverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced Java Microservices AWS Architect to lead the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-native enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5+ years in Architecture roles, with deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS cloud technologies.This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical architecture capabilities, solution design expertise, and the ability to mentor engineering teams while driving enterprise modernization initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and drive enterprise architecture strategies for large-scale distributed systems.Design and implement cloud-native solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS services.Lead architecture reviews, technical design sessions, and solution governance activities.Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.Establish architecture standards, best practices, and development frameworks.Guide teams on application modernization, cloud migration, and microservices transformation initiatives.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams.Ensure solutions meet scalability, performance, security, reliability, and maintainability requirements.Drive CI/CD, DevOps, observability, and automation best practices.Participate in hands-on development, code reviews, and critical technical problem-solving when required.Required Qualifications15+ years of overall software development experience.5+ years of proven Architecture experience delivering enterprise-scale solutions.Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.Extensive experience designing and implementing Microservices-based architectures.Deep hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.Expertise in system integration patterns, API design, and security best practices.Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Preferred SkillsAWS Solution Architect certification.Experience with Kafka or other messaging/event-streaming platforms.Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).Knowledge of observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana.Experience in highly regulated enterprise environments.Key TechnologiesJava 8/11/17+Spring BootMicroservices ArchitectureAWS (EKS, ECS, Lambda, EC2, RDS, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch)DockerKubernetesKafkaREST APIsCI/CDTerraform / CloudFormationGit, Jenkins, GitHub Actions
