Academic Coach - Middle LevelContract 197 day contract (special calendar)Reports ToUnder the general direction of the Executive Director of Middle-Level Education and PrincipalsPosition PurposeThe Academic Coach will assist building efforts to increase achievement for all student populations with emphasis on curriculum and instruction.Essential FunctionsAssist teachers with the implementation of standardsDemonstrate exemplary instruction for teachers through the following researched-based practices: Observation, coaching, gathering student evidence, debrief/reflection over student work, modeling, co-teaching and post assessments.Assist in providing teachers with training in content, pedagogy, and instructional strategies that are robust and provide a coherent and rich preparation for higher level courses.Assist teachers in diagnosing individual student weaknesses and match these areas of need with appropriate strategies and resources based on the standardsAssist with disaggregating and analyzing any assessment data to help guide teacher’s instructional decisionsAssist the specialists in assessing district assessments and their appropriateness to the standardsMonitor and report the effectiveness and progress of improved instruction and student performance to building principal and PLC teamsAssist in revisions and updates of curriculum and instruction documentsHelp make recommendations regarding instructional materialsParticipate in various training sessions for instructional leadersAdditional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Secondary Education, School Principals, and other Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.EquipmentUses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.Travel RequirementsTravels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesA deep level of understanding of the standards Evidence of success in working with adult learnersEvidence of strong interpersonal skillsEvidence of strong written communication and presentation skillsEvidence of strong planning and organizational skillsEvidence of successful leadership in content at a grade level, building level or district levelExperience in conducting professional developmentExperience in mentoring/coaching teachersIn-depth knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies necessary to support the standards.A strong commitment to team collaboration through Professional Learning CommunitiesPhysical and Mental Demands, Work HazardsWorks in standard office and school building environments.Certification/LicenseArkansas State Certification as a Teacher.Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.EducationBachelors Degree from an accredited college or universityExperienceFive years recent teaching experience.Teaching experience at more than one grade-level preferred.Teaching experience in math or literacy preferred.FLSA Status Exempt
