This mid- to senior-level position requires a strong understanding and knowledge of multi-media environmental compliance, including air, waste, surface water, spills and releases, hazardous materials, and emergency response/prevention. Candidate must be highly motivated and work well in a professional and team-oriented environment. Candidate must also have the ability to manage a heavy workload, travel as needed, possess excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with MS Office applications is required.The successful candidate will work independently, lead client-facing compliance efforts, engage with regulatory and public stakeholders, mentor junior staff, and may manage staff as needed. Strong technical writing, project management, field audit, and client relationship skills are essential.Essential Job FunctionsTetra Tech is seeking a mid-to senior level Environmental Compliance Specialist to join the Houston, Texas team and provide support on a variety of environmental projects throughout Texas. This position will support commercial, industrial, and public-sector clients across multiple environmental programs and compliance disciplines. The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions: Serve as an experienced technical resource for multi-media environmental compliance matters, including: Waste management and hazardous waste; Surface water runoff and stormwater; Spill, release, and emergency response; Hazardous materials management; and Environmental reporting and recordkeeping. Conduct and lead field compliance audits, inspections, and site assessments; Prepare, review, and manage compliance documents, plans, and reports, including environmental compliance assessment and audit reports, SPCC Plans, SWPPPs, waste profiles and waste management documentation, Tier II, TRI, and other chemical reporting; Support preparation of permit applications and regulatory submittals; Interpret and apply applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements at the federal, state, and local levels, including federal, state and local environmental regulations; Interact directly with clients, facility personnel, regulators, and public stakeholders to gather information, communicate findings, and support compliance solutions; Develop practical compliance strategies and recommend corrective actions based on regulatory and site-specific conditions; Manage project tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables with minimal supervision; Lead, mentor, and support junior staff and technical teams; Oversee or contribute to proposal development, scope writing, and budgetary estimates; Support due diligence activities, compliance reviews, and acquisition/divestiture assessments Execute site visits and field activities, which may require extended travel, overnight stays, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions; Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related area; Seven to 15 years’ experience in the environmental industry or related environmental consulting experience ; Proficiency with MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook required. CAD/GIS experience is a plus; Applicant must possess excellent communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills; Applicant must also be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment; Applicant must be able to drive and pass a motor vehicle records check. Travel requirements may include day-long projects that do not require overnight stays to multi-day field projects that do require overnight stays. Office work will be conducted at the Houston, Texas office.
