Substitute Teacher (Grades 9-12) JobID: 552Position Type:Substitute/Substitute TeacherDate Posted:8/19/2025Location:Atlantic County Institute of TechnologyDate Available:TBDClosing Date:TBDAdditional Information: Show/HideSubstitute TeacherPosition Purpose* To manage a classroom in the absence of the regular teacher and to deliver lesson presentations in a way that is age-appropriate for the class.Essential FunctionsReports to the office upon arrival at schoolChecks for messages or materials requiring immediate attentionRequests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessaryArrives in the classroom on schedule to greet students and remains in the assigned classroom so that students are effectively supervisedMaintains discipline and classroom control in order to promote active learning in the classroom while teaching the outlined lesson and implementing the lesson plan(s)Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assignedDelivers lesson presentations in a way that is age-appropriate for the class and meets the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all pupilsBudgets class time effectivelyEnsures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare and safety of all studentsReports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate administrator as soon as possibleFollows the schedule durint the school day and remains in the assigned classroom until all students have been dismissed for the dayFollows all policies, rules and procedures established for regular teachers and which good teaching practice dictatesCompletes evaluation report form(s) at the end of the day and checks out with the authorized personnel prior to leaving at the end of the dayDetermines if his/her services will be required for the next school day, following the district protocol for making substitute teacher assignmentsMaintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel informationCooperates with other professional staff membersMaintains records of pupils' educational progress in class record books and/or Board-approved forms and summarizes the marks for reporting purposesCollects and places student' papers in appropriate location(s)Returns instructional materials, equipment and keys to proper place(s)Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and Board policyModels no-discriminatory practices in all areasPerforms other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assignedEquipment* Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.Travel Requirements* Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.Skills, Knowledge, AbilitiesKnowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of world history in a variety of sub-topic areas, including geography, sociology, economics, political science, systems of government, anthropology, responsible citizenship, and humanities.Knowledge of humanity's major problems and approaches to their solution(s) in the past.Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards* Works in standard office and school building environments.Qualifications ProfileValid New Jersey Substitute Instructional CertificateAbility to maintain a positive learning environmentStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to follow lesson plans left by the permanent teacherRequired criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien statusEducation* 60 college credits and or the required vocational experienceExperience* Successful prior substitute teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
