Job Description: Please Note: This recruitment is being conducted to establish an eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies as they arise. Candidates who meet the qualifications and successfully complete the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list. Performs general maintenance work at the solid waste transfer facility. Work involves operating mechanical device to compact solid waste and performing related duties at the facility. Work requires ability to follow instructions and is performed under close to general supervision. Essential Job Functions Sweeps and cleans outside compactor site or transfer facility. Operates compactor. Assigns tasks to community service workers Works outside in the harsh elements Handles and sorts glass, cans, plastic, flatten cardboard. Handles and sorts electronics. Assists customers with trash and recycling materials. Maintains written log of site activities. Orders supplies. Cleans office, shed, and restroom. Paints poles, boxes, and signs. Communicates with the scale house Reports items needing repaired Prepares recyclable materials for collection and transport. Other Duties Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of-- Recycling materials. Skill in-- Customer service.Ability to-- Perform general facility maintenance.Follow oral and written instructions.Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: None Licenses or Certificates: Valid driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Regulations may be required. Special Requirements: None Physical Demands: Requires strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 100 pounds. Unusual Demands: Worker is exposed to dirt and soil, solid waste, and hazards from working with equipment and tools. Required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Subject to call-in or to remain on the job for emergencies. FLSA Status: Nonexempt Compensation Steps: Pay rate: $21.00 per hour Grade 713, part-time position, 17 hours per week Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Position closing date: June 12, 2026 Please Note: This position will close at 11:59 p.m. on June 12, 2026.
