Unit notes for each are listed below.\nThe Flex Team floats to MS units, Step-down, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding\nMS Units--1E/S-1W-2E/S-4E\nStep down IMCU or (3W)\nIRU--Rehab\nED Holding inpatient MS or step-down patients\nMEDSURG UNITS\nUnit "1W MedSurg: (Cost Center 3427)\n2E MedSurg: (Cost Center 3424) "\n# beds "1W MedSurg = 28-Beds (all private)\n2E MedSurg = 29-Beds (all private)\nNOTE: 2E MedSurg includes 2N & 2S but they refer to entire area of 2E as all one big unit "\nCerts BLS is the only required certification\nRatios 1:6-7\nCharge Nurse/House Supervisor They have a Clinical Manager Mon-Sat who acts as both charge nurse & nurse manager. They don't take patients unless the census is >24 then they will take patients. Nights has a resource nurse who takes a full patient assignment.\nNurse Aides Both 1W & 2E will each have 2 CNA's on Days but no CNA's on nights\nWeekend Requirement EOW - Sat/Sun are weekend shifts for both Days or Nights. They are required to work 2 Fridays per schedule. Most staff group their Friday with their weekend shifts, working Fri/Sat/Sun to get it out of the way\nHolidays Work into the perm staff holiday rotation\nScrub Color Navy Blue - jackets (if worn) must also be navy blue\nTele They can have patients on remote tele but there are no monitors on this unit. Tele patients are monitored remotely by the monitor tech on the 3rd floor\nNurse's Read Strips No\nDrips Heparin & possibly MSO4 for comfort measures, but no cardiac gtts\nVents Bipap, Cpap, High Flow - all managed per RT\nShifts "RN's - All 12's: 7a-7:30p; 7p-7:30a\nCNA's - Only 8's: 6:00am - 2:30pm & 2pm - 10:30pm\nThey allow self-scheduling & blocked schedules as long as needs of the units are met "\nFloating Only floating would be to other MedSurg units\nFloor specific orientation 1 shift w/ a preceptor\nCommon diagnosis / Types of patients "1W: Mainly post surgicals & ortho\n2E: Mainly MedSurg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, chemo (volume for inpatient chemo is fairly low). The director & manager administer chemo. Currently any COVID patients are also housed on this unit on one of the hallways - classified as 'dirty'. 'Clean' patients are housed on a different hallway. Could be assigned to both 'clean' & 'dirty' patients at the same time. MUST be comfortable with this. "\nTELE/STEPDOWN\nUnit 3W Stepdown (Cost Center 3428)\n# beds 28-beds private\nCerts BLS, ACLS, NIHSS are all required\nRatios 1:4-5 (If MedSurg acuity 1:6)\nEMR Currently Cerner - Switching to Epic June 2021\nCharge Nurse/House Supervisor Day charge no assignments - night charge might have an assignment\nNurse Aides 2 per shift during the day & mid shift. No CNA at night after 11p\nWeekend Requirement EOW: Days S/S, Nights F/S/S\nHolidays Every other holiday - work into perm staff holiday rotation\nScrub Color Navy Blue - jackets (if worn) must also be navy blue\nTele Monitors Yes\nDo nurses read strips They have a monitor tech but the RN's must be able to read & interpret strips. They are also the central monitor station for the whole hospital.\nDrips Must be able to titrate drips: Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, & Heparin. Insulin is only set-rate. No sedation gtts.\nVents Bipap, Cpap, High Flow\nHospitalist or Intensivist in house Hospitalist is in-house 24/7, Intensivist in the ICU 7 days/week from 7a-7p & on-call after hours. Sometimes have an NP.\nIV Team No IV Team but the ICU charge nurses or the ICU Director can be called for difficult IV sticks\nRT 24/7 In-house 24/7\nPharmacy 24/7 In-house 24/7\nShifts "RN's: 12's 7a-7:30p; 7p-7:30a\nCNA's: 8's 6:30a-3p; 2:30p-11p\n* The Director is wonderful! He always communicates w/ staff/travelers regarding their schedule. Allows block scheduling.
