Full Job DescriptionThe Network Engineer provides advanced-level network infrastructure support, focusing on the design, implementation, and management of secure, scalable, and high-performance data networks. This role works closely with senior engineering staff and is responsible for firewall policy development, network hardware configuration, virtualization support, and cross-platform systems integration. This position plays a key role in maintaining the security, stability, and efficiency of enterprise IT environments across multiple client sites, including K–12, public sector, and commercial organizations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide support for Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) and enterprise network security environments.Serve as a subject matter expert on firewall and perimeter security technologies and configurations.Manage and support Active Directory, VMware environments, and SAN/storage infrastructure.Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), DNS, DHCP, routers, and switches.Design, implement, and support network infrastructure across Windows, Linux/Unix, VoIP, and virtualization platforms.Perform configuration auditing, patching, and version control for network and security devices.Research and evaluate emerging technologies, providing recommendations aligned with client needs and industry best practices.Document network architecture, topology diagrams, and system configurations.Lead and support projects including hardware refreshes, network upgrades, and security implementations.Provide Tier 3 escalation support for outages, incidents, and service disruptions.Provide after-hours support as needed.Perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSStrong expertise in networking protocols, security technologies, and enterprise infrastructure design.Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, HPE, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar enterprise platforms.Experience with firewall technologies, DNS, DHCP, and WAN optimization.Proficiency in VMware environments, storage systems, and Windows/Linux/Unix servers.Advanced knowledge of routing and switching (Layer 2/3), wireless networking, and security frameworks (IDS/IPS).Ability to interpret and implement network designs and technical specifications.Strong communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., K–12, government, or enterprise security standards) is a plus.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).Certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or Juniper certifications preferred.5–7+ years of experience in network engineering, infrastructure, or systems integration.Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise networks (LAN/WAN, firewalls, switching, wireless).Strong understanding of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and subnetting.Experience with network monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization tools.Ability to manage projects, support high-availability environments, and ensure network security and reliability.Experience working in multi-site or client-facing environments is highly desirable.
