Bus ParaprofessionalPPS Transportation20+ hours/weekStarting Date: 5/26/26Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Transportation Manager and the Bus Driver, the Transportation paraprofessional assists in the care and supervision of Special Education program students riding buses to and from school.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEnsure the safety of the students by buckling students in their seats and securing wheelchairs before the bus starts; keep students seated and under control during transportation; assist students with crossing of streets; assist students when loading and unloading at home and at school.Maintains and demonstrates knowledge and skill in the bus safety equipment, emergency procedures, bus route and pick-up points, and wheelchair lifting and locking equipment.Handles emergency physical problems during the loading, transporting and unloading or students.Coordinate with the driver and transportation and school administrators regarding unusual, suspicious behaviors of events with students.Cooperate fully with school administrators and staff in special request concerning student behaviors and physical management.Safely restrain students who become physically aggressive.Accounts for students' personal belongings.Constantly checks and observes on the welfare and safety of students riding the bus.Assumes other responsible job-related duties as assigned by supervisors.Performs other duties as assigned.Regular and consistent attendance.Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.Ability to pass a physical exam and drug screen.Prior experience working with students preferred.Excellent organization skills and easily follows directionsExcellent attendance patterns and strong work ethicAbility to work easily and effectively with small groups of childrenA high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take directionApply online at: https://www.portageps.org/page/employment-at-ppsAdditional questions about the available positions can be directed to the Portage Transportation Department at 269-323-5151.Who is PPS?
