Reports to the Principal.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAnalyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of physical education activities, aswell as instructs pupils in the alcohol and drug awareness program.Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning for conduct, discipline, and grading.Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil;teaches physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary.Provides appropriate safety instruction and safety checks on equipment and fields to ensure student safety.Manages the issue, use and storage of all school owned instructional texts, supplies, and equipment.Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment inthe physical education areas.Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in sports participation.Maintains professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.Selects, requisitions and inventories supplies, equipment, and instructional aids in concert with approvedprocedures.Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; identified pupil needs and assists otherprofessional staff in helping pupils solve problems supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during theassigned working day.Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs; coaches at least two extracurricular athleticactivities, if required to do so.Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents.Evaluates student performance and provide constructive feedback.Develops and implements lesson plans that meet educational standards.Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment.Encourages student participation and engagement in activities.Communicates with parents about student progress and events.Has a prepared lesson plan that is sufficient for instructing the lesson.Exercises proper care of materials and equipment.Communicates needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.Arrives for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.Communicates appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.Accepts assistance, advice, and guidance from people responsible for supervising his/her performance and makes a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.Shares ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.Alert to the district's, school's, and his/her own goals and priorities and seeks professional development appropriate to these needs.Keeps in confidence information that has been obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law.While exercising his/her contractual responsibilities, complies with those state and local restrictions pertaining to the use of controlled substances, tobacco products, alcohol, and dress.Does not verbally or physically harass students.Does not use profanity in the presence of students.Does not have any sexual contact with students.Previous experience in physical education or as a physical education teacher.Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.Participated in professional development opportunities related to music education.Passion for teaching.Strong communication skills.Ability to manage a classroom and maintain discipline.Organizational skills for planning lessons and managing events.Standards -Classroom ManagementThe teacher begins the class promptly.The teacher communicates to students those behaviors expected of them, or there is evidence that expected behaviors have been communicated.Student exhibit classroom behaviors, which allow for maximum on-task behavior from all participants in the lesson.Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention.MaterialsThe teacher chooses appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching a lesson.The teacher handles efficiently the materials and/or equipment in the classroom setting.Planning for Instruction - Plan effectively with respect to establishing teaching strategies, which allow the attainment, by the students, of the lesson's behavioral objective.The teacher utilizes a clinical approach to teaching. Valid South Carolina teacher's certificate in the assigned teaching areas of physical education. Bachelor's degree in physical education.
